why do my triangles at the moment get drawn all crappy ie look all grainy? There is a depth buffer but no overlapping and I''m only drawing 3 triangles. Also, when you lock a vertex buffer, what''s the best way to store and treat the pointer you get returned? I don''t want to just copy across a block of vertices, but select them one by one. Can you post up a short code snippet of how to copy some vertices from an array to the vertex buffer? Thanks for any help.

Some screenshots might help.

You can convert the vertex data pointer to CUSTOM_VERTEX * and treat the data like an array of CUSTOM_VERTEX''s, which is what it is. Then you can access any element of that array in any order.
