Extensions

Extensions, are "added" features to Opengl that are specific to each card. By that, I mean that the number and type of extension is different for each card. A lot of the extensions are common to each card tho, like multi texturing. You can get a list of the extension your card has, I cant quite remember the function name, but there''s a tutorial on it on nehe website : http://nehe.gamedev.net/tutorials/lesson.asp?l=24
Some extensions open some really cool possibilities but they''re often not very widely used or some such problems.

Via extensions a graphics card can offer special functions like rendering to a texture, multitexturing, etc. You can get all available extensions via glGetString(GL_EXTENSIONS) and wglGetExtensionsStringARB(HDC hdc) in string format. Each extension has a set of functions to actually use the extension in your app. These functions are returned by wglGetProcAddress(...) as function pointers.
