planets

you could make another sphere slightly larger than the planet and draw it transparently on top of it. this can give your planet an glowing hora like you would see from space. i''ve done this with decent results. you could also texture map it with clouds but in my experience the clouds look best applied to the planet''s mesh directly rather than the atmosphere.
