Epic Games unveils Unreal Engine 6 in new Rocket League teaser

Briefing

Epic Games has shown the first public teaser of Rocket League running on what appears to be Unreal Engine 6. The clip was short and intentionally light on detail, but it did explicitly frame the moment as a “new era, new engine,” which is enough to confirm Epic is at least starting to surface UE6 publicly.

There’s no release date, no feature list, and no technical explanation yet from either Epic or Psyonix. That means developers shouldn’t read this as a product announcement with actionable specs; it’s more of a signal that the next engine generation is being introduced through a live game rather than a standalone tech demo.

For teams already on Unreal, the practical question is what UE6 changes relative to 5.7, which Epic currently describes as its stable build. UE 5.7 is still being pitched around large-scale foliage generation, layered physically accurate materials, and more lighting capacity for high-fidelity real-time worlds. If UE6 is coming soon, the migration story, tooling continuity, and runtime compatibility will matter as much as any headline feature.

For now, the main takeaway is uncertainty. Epic is clearly using Rocket League as the showcase, but without technical details it’s impossible to judge whether this is a major rendering leap, a pipeline overhaul, or mostly a branding/roadmap milestone. Teams planning long-lived Unreal projects will want to watch how Epic handles versioning, upgrade paths, and support overlap before making assumptions.

“What. A. Moment. The crowd reacts to the new era of Rocket League”
