Amazon clarifies stance on 007: First Light sequel – "Given the success of this one, I think you probably want IOI developing it"
Amazon has walked back the idea that a 007: First Light sequel is already headed to MGM or Amazon Game Studios. Jeff Gattis, who runs Amazon Luna and Amazon Game Studios, now says nothing has been decided about who would develop or publish a follow-up, and that the team hasn’t even really discussed it yet.
The practical takeaway for developers is that the Bond game pipeline is still wide open. Amazon owns the James Bond rights, but Gattis stressed that the company intends to do what’s best for the game rather than force everything under the Amazon umbrella. He also pointed to IO Interactive as the natural fit, saying that given the success of 007: First Light, IOI is probably the studio you’d want making the sequel.
That matters because it reinforces a familiar industry pattern: IP ownership doesn’t automatically mean internal development. For teams watching licensed-game deals, this is another reminder that the strongest external partner often keeps the sequel lane, especially when the first game lands well. It also suggests Amazon is still being pragmatic about studio structure instead of rushing into consolidation.
Gattis also addressed the acquisition angle directly, saying anything is possible but that there are no conversations about Amazon buying IO Interactive right now. Separately, he pointed to Luna’s integration into Prime Video as a way to expose Amazon’s gaming content to hundreds of millions of users, showing that Amazon is still thinking about games as part of a broader platform strategy.
“We did not confirm anything about who's publishing or developing the next Bond sequel.”
