Take-Two Interactive files subpoenas against Microsoft, Discord, and X amid ongoing GTA 6 leaks

Take-Two Interactive has escalated its response to the GTA 6 leak wave by subpoenaing Microsoft, Discord, and X for records tied to accounts involved in posting and distributing the material. The company is seeking identifying data, linked services, and internal investigation records that could help unmask the people behind the leaks, including the alleged “CyberLeek” persona.

The legal push reaches beyond simple account names. Take-Two is asking for user data, linked OneDrive and Xbox accounts, device and telemetry records, and other information associated with Discord members who interacted with the relevant servers. It also wants Microsoft’s internal records related to its own investigation of CyberLeek, plus documents tied to a GitHub repository where leaked content was posted.

For developers, this is another reminder that leak response now spans platform providers, cloud accounts, and community tooling, not just the obvious social channel where the footage appears. The subpoenas are framed around protecting copyrighted audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, and other unreleased assets, which is exactly the kind of material that tends to spread fastest once it escapes internal controls.

Discord has said it will review and comply with valid subpoenas, while Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet said Microsoft is working with Take-Two and Rockstar to protect creative works and IP. The timing is notable too: the leak campaign is ongoing, Rockstar has a new look at GTA 6 set for August 28, and the game is still scheduled to launch on November 19.
