Rainbow Six Tactics Revealed: Building a Turn-Based Tactical Experience
Rainbow Six Tactics has been revealed as a turn-based tactical game set in the Rainbow Six universe, headed to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Players take the role of Six and direct a squad of up to four Operators through missions built around planning, intel, and coordinated execution.
For developers, the interesting part is how aggressively the game is trying to preserve Siege-style identity while changing the core interaction model. The team is keeping destructible walls, cover denial, and breach-driven positioning, but layering them into a turn-based structure with mission prep, operator training, and post-mission progression between assignments.
The roster is built around 15 Siege Operators, each with signature gear, abilities, and skill trees. That creates a strong combinatorial design space: squad composition, mission selection, and environmental manipulation all appear to be central to replayability. The campaign is said to include dozens of missions across global locations, with objectives such as hostage rescue, bomb disposal, and target elimination.
One standout mechanic is The Breach, a synchronized assault that temporarily breaks the turn cadence so all active Operators move together. That suggests a deliberate attempt to preserve the franchise’s high-tempo breach fantasy inside a slower tactical framework. Specific release timing hasn’t been disclosed, but the game is already available to wishlist on the Xbox Store.
