Gravhounds Revealed: Co-op Chaos with Bio-Engineered Dogs in Space

Briefing

Octopus Panic has revealed Gravhounds, the first project from its seven-person team and a co-op survival game headed to Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC on November 2, 2026. It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, which gives the studio a built-in audience while it continues tuning the game in public.

The pitch is straightforward but very systems-heavy: players control bio-engineered dogs stranded on hostile alien worlds, taking jobs from an onboard AI named COSMO. Each shift is about landing on a planet, setting up an operation, extracting resources or tech, and getting out before the local ecosystem overwhelms the crew. The longer a team stays, the more the planet escalates, which should make pacing and risk management a core part of the design.

The standout mechanic is the Grav Beam, a multi-purpose gravity tool used to move resources, place build kits, haul equipment, and improvise in combat. That puts traversal, logistics, and combat on the same interaction layer, which is exactly the kind of design that can create emergent co-op stories if the tuning holds up. The propulsion rig adds another mobility layer, including pipeline grinding with unlimited boost, so movement and base defense are tightly linked.

For developers, the interesting part is the studio’s choice to lean into Game Preview for a game built around balance, co-op friction, and player experimentation. Octopus Panic is explicitly expecting players to find solutions the team didn’t anticipate, which suggests a live iteration model where systemic depth matters more than scripted...

“We started Octopus Panic to get small again: to experiment, have fun, and build systems that leave room for players to surprise us.”
