XBOX and TCL Partner to Bring XBOX App to TCL Smart TVs

Xbox has struck a partnership with TCL to put the Xbox app on select TCL Smart TVs in the coming months. Once it lands, eligible players will be able to launch Xbox Cloud Gaming directly from the TV, using a supported controller and either a Game Pass subscription with cloud playtime or cloud playtime purchased separately.

The practical effect is simple: more people can get into Xbox games from hardware they already own, without buying a console first. Microsoft says the rollout will reach millions of TCL TV users across more than 25 countries, which makes this more than a niche convenience feature. It is another step toward treating the TV itself as a first-class endpoint for the Xbox ecosystem.

For developers, the interesting part is distribution and friction. Cloud access on smart TVs lowers the barrier to sampling games, which can help with discovery for blockbuster releases, long-tail catalog titles, and indies alike. It also reinforces the importance of controller-friendly UI, fast session startup, and save synchronization across devices, since players may jump between TV, console, and PC more often.

The exact TCL models and regional availability haven’t been detailed yet, but the direction is clear: Xbox keeps pushing toward device-agnostic play. For teams shipping on Game Pass or targeting cloud delivery, that means another living-room surface to think about when balancing input, readability, and session design.
