Survive Together in the Strange Worlds: Once Human (F2P) Is Available Now on XBOX Series X|S With Game Pass!
Once Human is now live on Xbox Series X|S and available day one through Game Pass, expanding the free-to-play survival shooter beyond its existing PC audience. The console release supports cross-play, cross-progression, and Xbox Play Anywhere, so players can move between platforms without losing progress or splitting their friend groups.
For developers, the notable bit is how the game is being positioned as a full console adaptation rather than a straight PC carryover. The team says it was optimized for Series X|S with controller integration and 4K output, and it has added a first-person perspective toggle on console. That matters because the game’s original third-person survival loop now has to hold up in a tighter, more immersive camera mode on a big screen.
The game itself leans hard into a “New Weird” visual language: familiar objects twisted into monsters, surreal zones, and world events that mutate both atmosphere and combat rules. That aesthetic is doing a lot of heavy lifting for readability and identity, especially in a survival game where base-building, exploration, and combat all compete for attention.
NetEase is also using the launch to tease the Ocean Expansion for October, which will add island, surface, and deep-sea survival, plus a buildable sea fortress that starts as a raft and grows into a mobile base. For teams shipping live-service survival games, this is another reminder that platform expansion and content cadence now have to be planned together, not as separate problems.
