Northern Forge Studios and Runaway Play lead Green Games Jam Awards 2026

GamesIndustry.biz reports that the 2026 Green Games Jam Awards were handed out last week at BFI Southbank, with Playing for the Planet recognizing work in sustainable game development and environmental storytelling. Eleven awards were presented across studio, storytelling, fundraising, and player-voted categories.

Northern Forge Studios and Runaway Play led the field with two wins apiece. Northern Forge took Best Small Studio and UNEP's Choice for Orna: The GPS RPG, while Runaway Play won Best Storytelling for Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary and Google's Choice for Splash – Fish Aquarium.

Other notable winners included CD Projekt Red for Changemaker, ustwo Games' Maria Sayans for Champion, and Rovio Entertainment for Best Fundraising with Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Dream Blast. The ceremony capped this year's Green Games Summit, which also featured talks and panels from Hasbro, Supercell, ustwo Games, Playstack, and others.

For developers, the awards are a useful snapshot of how environmental themes are being folded into live games, not just one-off campaigns. The mix of jury picks, partner choices, and player-voted categories also shows there is room for both creative framing and measurable engagement when studios build around sustainability messaging.
