IKEA and XBOX Team Up on YXSTABY, a New Collection Made for Gaming at Home
XBox Wire says IKEA and Xbox have teamed up on YXSTABY, a nine-piece collection aimed at making gaming feel more at home without giving up function or style. The line was co-developed by designers from both companies, with the Xbox controller serving as the main visual and structural reference across several pieces.
For developers, the interesting bit is how far the collaboration leans into product design language from hardware. The D-pad shows up as both a cushion and a stainless-steel platter, while a mirrored display box is meant to showcase a controller and collectibles. The collection also includes a gaming lounge chair, monitor stand, TV stand on castors, side table on castors, and a laptop support with storage.
The most notable piece is the thumbstick stool, which was developed from the Xbox Wireless Controller’s original 3D design files supplied by Xbox device designers. Even the grip texture was repurposed for seating, turning a familiar interaction detail into a functional furniture feature.
IKEA says the goal was to reimagine gaming as a thoughtful, comfortable part of everyday living. YXSTABY launches in IKEA stores today, with online availability later this year and market-by-market availability varying.
