Rendering Coherent Scattering via Quantum Collision Models

A new rendering paper proposes using quantum collision models to simulate coherent light-matter interactions that standard BSDFs usually ignore. For graphics programmers, the interesting part is that the authors frame sub-surface scattering as symmetry-constrained unitary collisions and say the operators can be precomputed on near-term quantum hardware. That could open up physically distinct materials with optical behavior that’s hard to fake with conventional shading.
