Maximum Entropy Encoding of Energy-Weighted Spherical Moments

A new graphics paper proposes a maximum-entropy way to compress directional irradiance into finite spherical moments while guaranteeing non-negative reconstruction. The method uses total energy plus first- and second-order directional terms, and on 981 HDRI scenes it cut mean luminance RMSE by 15.8% versus stored QZH. It also stayed strictly positive, which is the practical win most lighting pipelines care about.
