Dune: Awakening Arrives on XBOX With New Ways to Play
XBox Wire says Dune: Awakening has launched on Xbox Series X|S, the Microsoft Store, Xbox on PC, Game Pass and Cloud Gaming, alongside a substantial update that changes how the game is structured and played. For developers, the notable shift is that this is no longer just a platform expansion; it’s a broad redesign aimed at accessibility, customization and long-term retention.
The biggest addition is a full single-player mode with granular difficulty and gameplay tuning, including sandstorms, harvesting, XP, building limits and durability. PvP is now fully optional, while the Landsraad endgame has been rebuilt into a mission-driven system that supports both multiplayer PvE and solo play. Funcom has also added new mission locations, Imperial Testing Stations, specializations and gear augmentations.
Combat and progression have been reworked too, with a wider parry window, improved NPC animation and AI, stamina changes, new weapons, and a reworked Rapier. The game also reduces some of the harsher progression loss cases from launch, and late-game crafting now asks for fewer rare materials so solo players can realistically reach endgame without a guild.
On Xbox Series X|S, the game ships with console-tailored UI and controls, Performance and Quality modes, shared progression via Play Anywhere, and support for ROG Xbox Ally. Funcom says the Polar Cap free update is due later this year, and full cross-play is planned after the console launch.
