Gruescript

Create web-based point-and-click text adventure games

About This Project

Gruescript is a free online tool for creating point-and-click text adventures/interactive fiction. It creates games that mimic the feel of traditional parser-based (type-in) text adventures, but replaces the parser itself with contextually generated buttons, eliminating the need for the player to type and making games suitable for mobile play and modern audiences.

Unlike most web-based IF authoring tools such as Twine, which favour story-centric "choice" games, Gruescript retains the physical room-based “world model” of traditional text adventures, favouring prose-light, puzzle-centric game design.

The Gruescript online editor

You develop your game in an online editor, and then download it as a playable HTML page, which you can publish on your own website (e.g. itch.io page). If you prefer to work offline, you can do so; a Notepad++ syntax highlighting file is available.

Gruescript is released under the open-source MIT Licence. Share and Enjoy!
