Spades is a free, browser-based version of the classic partnership card game, part of the onlinecardgames.org collection. There is nothing to install and no account is required: the game loads straight in the browser and fits the screen on desktop and mobile with no scrolling.
You and your partner Sam play against Nina and Owen, three computer players:
Bidding - everyone bids the tricks they expect to take, and your bid plus your partner's is the team contract. Make it to score, miss it and you lose points, and watch the bags: overtricks add up, and ten of them cost 100. Nil and Blind Nil bids are in for when you plan to take no tricks at all. House rules - set the target score (250, 300 or 500), the bag penalty, when Blind Nil is allowed, a mercy rule, Double Nil and the Blind Nil card exchange, so it plays like the table you learned at.
Two players - a head-to-head version against one computer opponent, where you draft your 13 cards one at a time before bidding. Play 2-Player Spades
Your Record keeps games won, contracts made, Nils made and your best streak, so you can see whether your bidding is actually getting better. Optional Tips explain bidding and play while you learn, Hint suggests a card only when you ask, and the game saves itself and offers to resume when you come back. A four-colour deck, large cards and reduced motion are in the options.
The game is written in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no framework, and is about 220 KB in total.
