About This Position
You'd help decide how the game actually plays. This includes designing puzzles, gameplay mechanics, encounters, progression, and interactions while making sure they support the story rather than existing just because they're there. You'd work with programmers, level designers, writers, and the creative director to turn ideas into gameplay.
Secondarily, though Game Programmer and Game Designer SOUND similar in their role and name. One programs and codes, one decides where everything goes, and the Environment Artist, Level Designer, and Character / Toy Artist report to him/her/they.
Requirements
You should have a strong understanding of gameplay design, puzzle design, pacing, and player psychology. Previous game design experience is preferred, although detailed personal projects or prototypes can demonstrate the same skills. You should also be comfortable explaining why a mechanic works and accepting feedback when it doesn't.
