Anyways, if you've been on any major game news sites they have mirrored my publisher's press release, etc.

This is my favorite article though...

Some of the comments by readers are gay lol, one dude said the game looks like Battlefield 1942 lol ( wtf? ).

Quote:
Scheduled for retail early in 2008, the game was previously called Gang Wars, and is in development by Revolution Studios' 22-year-old sole employee/founder/president/hair model Danny Green.

lol...They called me revolution studios, and linked to my information page which clearly says radioactive-software.com and they added hair model at the end of my description lol.

This is funny.

Search google for "urban empires" game and you'll see all the news posts, I read a lot of them it's funny to see how they all screw up in some way. Guess that just comes with it.

slash hair model. gotta add that to my sig *runs hand through hair* yea baby. hahah

Anyways, major progress visually & gameplay wise is underway, 24/7...it will look like a different game in a week so I'm not worried. I do think it is too early to release screens, it had to start sometime. I don't think I can post stuff on the dev. journal any more, unless I run it by my publishers PR...BETA should be in the next month-ish so watch out for it. I'll still try to update the journal with various progress...we'll see.

[EDIT] Also just realized I have over 200,000 journal views. *turns on eurotrance music* it's time for a sex party!!11ffffffff

*music stops*

*lights turn on*

Hey...why are you guys leaving!??!

I wish I were a hair model. Our publisher described me as a "cretinous, incalculable evil which dwells in the heart of all mankind".

well I think the gameplay will wind up being more important for your game anyway. I think the graphics were well enough before your latest set of revisions. Hopefully the gameplay won't suffer as you cram to make your release date.

GTA started out as a wrecklessly fun game before it ever got pretty.

And I think they did a good job of keeping the mood light hearted even while you were engaging in some majorly nefarious deeds. I think that's one thing games like Scarface and the other clone's kinda got wrong.

In GTA 3 for instance, you were basically a pure psychopath and even though you got money and power, your character could care less about all that. And that lack of caring about anything made for somewhat cathartic gameplay.

My gameplay will be totally different than GTA or any clone, it's an online game so all I essentially do is build the environment, and define the rules...the players will make each game happen. There can be up to 18 people per server [ think Battlefield / Counter-Strike server topology], it will just come down to balancing things over the X month long BETA process...I'm looking forward to that.

Anyways, I think the graphics are clearly on par with other commercial games out there [ not Battlefield 1942 ], I guess that kid got the wrong impression because of the cropped/resized low res images posted on that site...It wasn't my call which screens to release, none of the ones I posted on my dev journal last entry were even on that site, it's like they picked the worst ones. What's the point of having 2k textures on everything if the screens are gonna get resized to 400x300.

Buuut yea, I guess all that just comes with the territory.

I think my biggest obstacles to overcome will not be in balancing the gameplay....but in the technical issues such as getting smooth vehicle physics over the network, and solid client side prediction [ I'm undergoing the 2nd re-write]. Or I could pull an Auto Assault and disable collisions between client controlled vehicles.

Must... resist... urge... to... PUNCH!
Comments like that are totally unfair, but I guess it's an example of what kind of market will judge it.

Yea well the site lead off with a cropped / distorted / resized image that I didn't even like enough to post on my site soo what can ya do about that. And they didn't post any decent [or even high res] screens of the game, so that's probably where the disconnect is.

There will be more press releases and improved visuals in the next few weeks so it doesn't bother me...but yea...I don't even have streetside objects, 3 lane roads or civilians back into the game in those screens.
