I've started on characters and animations, which is much more difficult than drawing boxes. Here is my current laughable walking animation:
I haven't had a lot of time lately, most of it has been spent on artwork. On the advice of my wife I toned down the saturation and I think it looks 1000 times better.

Hey thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely take your advice, I've also found some other 2D animation resources. Right now I'm working on getting the animations working in the engine, then I can see better how to draw them correctly. I checked out your project, very cool!

The walk cycle could use some refinements, I didn't laugh though... 2D animation is tricky business. What I noticed at once was that the leg that isn't lifted up could be pushed back a bit into the distance (maybe 2px to the right and 1px up). If it isn't pushed back it looks like the guy is lifting each leg up and down, no forward motion going on. Also when the character has the legs furthest apart the entire upper body can be lowered a pixel to give a sense of weight to the character.
Keep up the good work! =)
