3D engines aren''t really an undertaking for a "beginner", so I''m not sure if many exist for that skill level.

This is about as good as they come. Above poster''s right, though; it''s not an undertaking for a beginner. You''ll need to have a pretty firm grasp on data structures and scene management assuming you actually want to do anything of quality.
