Has anyone here tried the latest release of Dev-C++? I am still using 4.0 and was wondering whether or not it is worth switching over. And does it use the same format for project files?

i haven't tried Beta5 yet, but the earlier Betas were *very* buggy (which is why they call them betas...). Some of the new features were cool, like the class browser, but the project formats are not backward compatible. Version 5 can load V4 projects, but not vice versa. I'll stick with 4.01 until the bugs are ironed out of 5.

The first couple of betas were terrible, you couldn''t even save a file or compile without risking an access violation but the new betas have caused me no problems at all, which considering V4 just did not work for me at all most of the time is pretty good.

I''m tryout all of Dev-C++ Betas, and that''s amazing!!! the compiler speed, and the debugger....

The Dev-C++ 4 FINAL was good... but I found a few bugs in the betas.... ones I send to BloodShed and they fix-it!! Why don''t you try and if you found a bug contact them??

Thanks for the replies. I think I may give beta 5 a try (can''t hurt). But I will keep version 4 in case the new version crashes on me.

Any other comments from those that have tried it?

Yeah. I downloaded it this afternoon. It seemed a lot more stable than the 4.9.x betas, but it still crashed a couple times. I plan to stick with MSVC, but if that''s not an option for you, Dev-C++ is probably the best you''ll find. It''s worth the upgrade, IMHO.

Peace,
ZE.

I downloaded and installed it this afternoon. But I came across a problem. When i try to complie a program an error message shows up and says "Unable to run program file". Does anyone know how to fix that? That program complied in 4.9.3.0, why not in 4.9.5.0?
