Is it thue that all the X file 3d models are saved separated from their textures, so usually when using those models, we need to specify the texture path of them, otherwise they will appear "naked"----without textures and stuffs?? Please help me with this question Thanks in advance

Yes, the .x file, when built and textured refers to the texture by name, it is important that the texture be in the same directory. At least, that has been my experience.(i use milkshape to create my .x files

Same idea here!!

But the weird thing is that when I try to find the textures of the those X files Microsoft sample programs use, I just simply couldn''t find any? Especially those plane X files like spaceship 13.x.... Does anyone know how those X files figure to "put on their cloths" without a bmp texture file?? or just that they are saved in a diffrent folder than X files?? If the latter is true, can anyone tell me where that diffrent folder is?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, they keep them in the "media" folder of the SDK, they also have a 2000 line media object that loads the stupid bitmaps into the system memory.

When loading .X files, you are responsible for loading the textures yourself - the interfaces merely provide a texture filename to use. You can take that filename and prefix the path to your textures.

Yeah that''s how I learned how to use Skyboxing..

I took the .x skybox file and just swapped the textures with my own space textures and presto-chango: My very own space skybox!

It''s a shame so many are quick to bash the samples, when they''ve come through so often (IMHO) in trying to figure things out like this..
