I''ve searched the web for a while, and while I came across a lot of sites explaining CRC, none of them explained why they used 0x0000 or 0xFFFF as initial register values. I understand just about everything else that has to do with CRCs, but is there a significance with these two numbers, or are they just easier numbers to work with? I would think that as long as it was predetermined and consistant for both the CRC that creates the checksum and the CRC that validates it, it wouldn''t matter, but I''m the one asking the questions

Oh wait, I was reading something and it said that when using a lookup table, initialize with 0xFFFF because of long streams of 0s at the beginning of most files, and use 0x0000 otherwise. Still, any insight on the significance of these two?
