Can MS VC++.NET compile MS VC++ 6.0 projects?

In general.
char a[99999],*p=a;int main(int c,char**V){char*v=c>0?1[V]:(char*)V;if(c>=0)for(;*v&&93!=*v;){62==*v&&++p||60==*v&&--p||43==*v&&++*p||45==*v&&--*p||44==*v&&(*p=getchar())||46==*v&&putchar(*p)||91==*v&&(*p&&main(0,(char**)(--v+2))||(v=(char*)main(-1,(char**)++v)-1));++v;}else for(c=1;c;c+=(91==*v)-(93==*v),++v);return(int)v;} /*** drpizza@battleaxe.net ***/

VC++7 can in general compile VC++6 projects.

char a[99999],*p=a;int main(int c,char**V){char*v=c>0?1[V]:(char*)V;if(c>=0)for(;*v&&93!=*v;){62==*v&&++p||60==*v&&--p||43==*v&&++*p||45==*v&&--*p||44==*v&&(*p=getchar())||46==*v&&putchar(*p)||91==*v&&(*p&&main(0,(char**)(--v+2))||(v=(char*)main(-1,(char**)++v)-1));++v;}else for(c=1;c;c+=(91==*v)-(93==*v),++v);return(int)v;} /*** drpizza@battleaxe.net ***/

I think the new IDE alone is worth the cost of the upgrade. All the other stuff is just gravy.

yep, I have to agree, the VS.Net IDE is very nice to use, alot more friendly than VS6 ever was

If VC++.NET can compile VC++6 sources, the answer should be YES and on top of that, it can compile both managed and unmanaged sources.

Dear pros/ seniors, please pardon my ignorance for the following section.

On the other hand, I understood that web-services are actually coming out and in fact, it(non-CORBA/EDI services) has already been used in cases where security and reliability is not much of a concern. But if they are exchanging data in XML format, does implementation using C++.NET have significant difference(in terms of performance) compared to VB.NET. If it''s the same, why don''t MS just include C# or VB into it''s architecture since web-services apps are language, platform and system independent instead of looking for new languages'' support to include into it''s .NET framework just like JAVA platform(they recommended pure JAVA) did.

.NET is M$''s name for the web services technology used. The idea of web services is basically you can call a function in another program somewhere else on the internet (or visa versa). This makes for pretty much the most code reuse possible. (A bit like DLL''s over the internet)

There are web services for,
getting the weather,
maths functions (basic/advanced),
true random number generator,
fetching postcode information,
ordering books,
getting information on books

and loads, loads more.

As far as game programming goes if you do not require using your bandwidth to its limits, web services provide a quick easy solution. However, if your programming the next generation FPS then webservices arn''t effient enough (they waste alot of bandwidth) since messages are sent in XML format (bit like HTML for those of you who don''t know ^^) (I know you can save bandwidth by compiling the XML, but it is still wasteful)

C++.NET just got RAD. In VS.NET 1.1 (current beta 1 codename Everett) got some new stuff for C++. It brings a RAD function similar to the one used in C#. Quite nice. Now I just need to get openGL working

Nice. Now go to the ms website and read what .NET really is.

Then never say this bullshit again.

As for this comment, I suggest you actually download the SDK''s and Matrix if you do not already have a .net compiler IDE. .net is not just a new IDE its a new platform and language
indepentant, implemenation of an expanded C++. As for C# or C++ or VB in .net, C++ is managed extensions and libraries. C# is webservices programmes. As for serveral things you worry about now. Lets see you need to build a class that needs to react to a event. You create the event description in the class implement it in the class that uses it an fire it away. Or delegates, idea of sending anything a pointer of a function and the ablity for it to call a callback function for event management.

Anyone have a link to some screenshots of the IDE? Google doesn''t turn up anything useful and the only thing I''ve found on Microsoft''s website is some sort of flash movie. I''m very interested to see this delicious new interface everybody is talking about.
