Iv''e yust started using this web site, and hands down it''s the best one i have found on the internet. Iv''e wanted to program games for mainy years, but i havnt got going yet.It seems to me that it is verry hard to get started. am i the only one who thinks this? im curently learning C and i''m hoping to make a few small games before i do the Scroller. Anyway on to the subject in hand. I am planning on creating a 2D Scroller in C/C++, a bit like an old game called ''Metal Slugs'', bad name, good game. has anyone ever played it?

Nope.

If it''s a PC game, that surprises me.. I''m a bit of a side-scroller veteran. I used to LOVE side-scrolling games. They''ve obviously lost a lot of popularity now that 3D action games are the order of the day, but they can still be a lot of fun. I''d like to make a semi-serious side-scroller action-adventure someday.. something with a cinematic feel to it. I''ve actually got about 50% of a game like this written, but with no one to program it or produce the significant amount of art required, it''ll be years before I get to it, I think.

Unless any programmers and artists out there are just looking for an opportunity to make a side-scroller. Ha!

It''s ''Metal Slug'' and was on the arcade and Neo-Geo. Carts for Metal Slug 3 sold for (and still do) absurd prices around the £300 mark. Classic game, insanly hard at times, beautifully smooth cartoon animation.

Hunt around the ''net and you''ll find several emulators - although the actual roms for Neo-Geo are typically +40Mb...

Sorry for the wrong title, I played it last year in spain when i was there on holiday.
Its a great game in wich you control, single and co-operative play with a friend, an army-type looking people who shoot their way through the levels. Past Zombies, other men, robot-walkers and tanks.

I would love to help you make it, the only problem is have i had said ive only just realy started acting on my programming ''hope''. but then im only 16 so i have quite alot of time to get good at it.

In your game, IrBrian, what graphics package would you use to create your graphics for your games?

I would like to, as i have said before, create a 2D scroller,
but i dont know wich package would be best to use for 2D game graphics in the games.
I don''t want to spend to much on the package, but if it means that i will get one that is realy good then i might think about shelling out a bit more.

''Scuse me guys but this is in the wrong forum. I leave it here a while for you to see this notice, thn I''m moving it to the game programming forum.
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
