I''ve been hanging around here in the background for years, so I thought I''d ask yous all a question. If you have got a kind of analytical mind like mine, you''ll probably see things around that you''d like modified, what are they? (NB no modifcations to PPL PLS) Here a few of my latest ... UNDER CAR LIGHTING - would like to see some kind of light _under_ cars. I''ve seen cars with this done, usually with purple neon. It makes the car 100% more visible, esp. from the side. It would stop accidents. CAR REAR VIEW MIRROR - I cannot understand why car rear view mirrors are not convex, it would mean you could see through the window over the shoulder more easily. DOORS - In the building where I live, none of the doors have windows, and that means you never know if someones on the other side, and I don''t want to bump anyone. (This was a favourite trick in DOOM) SWEATSHIRTS - I bought 2 sweatshirts and they shrunk. Can they not make sweatshirts that won''t shrink. SUITS - I only like jeans and T shirts. TIES - are just dangerous. COMPUTER MONITORS - should be widescreen by now. SUNGLASSES - If you get your sunglasses, look through them at an object, at angle of 45 deg, and then move them away, youll see the object move. The streetlight outside my flat moves about 1 ft visually, from about 30 ft away. SUNGLASSES SHOULD BE THIN AS POSSIBLE. FLOURECENT LIGHTS - If you everwonder why everybody stands in the kitchen at parties, it''s because of the strobe light effect going on there. At work this makes people mad. I really noticed this once when in a large sports hall. WINDOWS FOLDER ICONS - should all be created with a different colur, so that folder beginning with the same X characters are distinguishable. NO TO ALL - Microsoft has obviusly never heard these three words together. Just a few of my favourite things... R

Another one ...

D3D plane thickness - It should be possible to define the thickness of a plane (so you can see it when looked at from the side). I remember hitting my head on a door on the back of a lorry in Max Payne...

under-car-lighting would be really sweet...it makes the pavement glow, and it makes your car look pretty cool too (unless your driving a really crappy car, like a pinto)

I HATE, jeans...I mean, I used to love them, but I don''t wear them anymore because they feel tight, evne the loose fitting ones make me feel like ricky martin.

Max payne uses the Quake 3 engine, and hence, OpenGL. A quad with thickness is usually known as a cube . Rendering quads instead of really thin cubes saves rendering time, which is why they do it like that.

Get something that''s loose and the waist size is bigger than you need. That works for me.

For me, Jeans and T''s and Sneakers are the only way to go.

I mean, shoes are lethal (no grip for evasive manouvers), shirts are uncomfortable (shirt+tie, too much), trousers are too thin too.

COPY PROTECTION: Copy protection will be the end of the world. HDTV is fatally flawed, DVD is fatally flawed, web music is fatally flawed, all because of copy protection

MONITORS: Widescreen plasma would probably be better for gaming and movies than those weird LCDs.

CARS: The government should give car companies money and enact a law that by 2008 every car sold in the US has to be enviromentally-friendly. This would also help stop terrorists and mischevous Middle Eastern nations-without oil, how are they going to get money?

ALARM CLOCKS: I would like to have Apple design an alarm clock. Flat screen, numbers would be BITMAPS, and it would have a built-in mini-disc player so that you could program your alarm clock to cache a certain song in memory to play at different times of day (RATM - Wake Up for the morning; The Beatles - Yesterday for Monday mornings)

PC ARCHITECTURE: Shared memory for video and the processor; minimal OSs small enough to fit on EEPROM or flash memory

LOCATION: I would like to move to a small (about 200 x 200 miles), newly-discovered island with a pure democracy; everyone is given a national ID card that also serves as a credit card, a bank account card, a voting booth

Nope, Max Payne uses the MaxFX engine, the same one that powers
the 3DMark Benchmark tools. And it is most definetly Direct3D (it was one of the first DX8 games).

From the box:
Requirements: 16MB Direct3D compatible graphics card

Well, if you''re willing to pay for it I saw a sweet 19(?)'''' widescreen monitor from sony the other day - price tag: 3000$

Me thinks it''s the fridge - you know, where the beer is.

One thing (which I doubt is technically feasible, but hey...) I would like for cars to have would be a radar and a hud, with tracked object''s location, distance and speed marked maybe even color coded for colision potential.

You know, I never wanted to be a programmer...

Strobe light effects?

I hear that power in Europe is alternating at 50 Hz, unlike the US''s 60 Hz. Does that make flourecent lights flicker at 50 Hz instead of the only sometimes noticable 60 Hz flicker?

Wow. I''d kill myself. Either that or turn out all the lights.
I like the DARK layout!

If I recall correctly, EU voltage is typically 50Hz, 220V, US/Canada voltage is 60Hz, 110V - and yes, I imagine it would make fluorescent light flicker more noticeable

slightly...

it "flickers" at twice the AC frequency so... its a difference of 100 Hz and 120 Hz...

I''m not sensative to it myself so... whatever. I''d hate to be one of those people! these 72Hz monitors would drive you crazy!

SO if you did not know why did you state your opinion as fact. Especially as anyone who knows anything about Max Payne or anyone that has ever played it, would never make a ridiculous comment like "powered by quake 3", so I can assumed you''ve never played the commercial version, at best a pirated one perhaps.

Rar! I am AP, hear me make ridiculous accusations! The "pirated software" one is particularly silly.... is pirated software somehow more ambiguous about the engine use? Does the back of the Max Payne box have "NOT POWERED BY QUAKE 3" written on it? Dunce.

Don''t listen to me. I''ve had too much coffee.

I stand corrected. I had always wondered why there was a total lack of curved surfaces. Now I know

What a disgrace, moderators have absolutely sunk to a new low.

Clearly my moderatorship should be revoked at once for making such a grevious mistake.

Just wait until you see MS''s new quantum operating system, including: Yes, no, maybe, either, both, neither and you decide..

quote:
FLOURECENT LIGHTS

They''re supposed to be wired in in pairs (or better yet, quads) with each out of step freqency-wise with the others. This way you can''t notice the flickering (until one gives out, hence the preference to quads over straight pairs).
