I just read an article abount Lindows. I have been wondering for a while if anyone has ever contemplated coding a multi-threaded, pseudo single task OS, just for running a single game. The XBOX has such a thing? I was going to ask the Lindows ppl, but the sign-up fee of $299 put me (way) off (altough I could pay the $299 and then bale before the 30 day cool off). Anyone got any thoughts, or inside information, about this?? R [edited by - reaction on December 16, 2002 7:23:55 PM]

What does Lindows have to do with anything?

Do you mean like you stick the CD for the game in the computer, reboot, and poof, there''s your game?

I think that''d be a pretty stupid idea. That''d defeat the purpose, and the concept, of having an OS in the first place. It''d be like the old DOS days when games had to come with their own sound card drivers and stuff.

But if you wanted to include a tiny version of a real OS, instead of one you wrote on your own (like Linux) then that might be possible.
I like the DARK layout!

Exactly, a tiny version of a real OS. One with preferably v few background processes. Just a few drivers and a multiprocssing kernel.

PPL spend hundreds of pounds on upgrades and getting the fastest hardware, and you''re telling me they wouldn''t pay for a super-optimised game OS for their PC. I think not.

I thought you guys cared about these things...
