Ok, idiot that I am I broke the screen on my laptop. I''m wondering if it''s worth getting fixed or just buying a new one (the laptop was fairly new in September) and either way how much it costs to fix it. Its a gateway (I know, I know but it''s a graduation present). BQ "Working is the curse of the drinking class." - Oscar Wilde

Is the damage covered under warrenty?

What are the laptop specs (what model Gateway)?

What size is the screen?

The damage isn''t covered under warrenty, though I got a blue ribbon edition to anyone''s collection of bizzare letters.

From Gateway:
Hello Brian ,

"Thank you for your e-mail. From what you have described, I see that you
have an issue with your laptop screen broken.

From our database I see that your two year Limited Parts Warranty
expires on 8/18/2004.

But I am sorry to say that any damage to the computer caused by
lightning strike, natural disaster, or a power surge is not covered
under warranty. If the computer will not function because of this
damage, then the system will be sent to us so we can estimate the
damages and repair it. You must pay for shipping the system both ways,
a $129.95 labor charge, and the cost of any parts that are replaced."

I took this to mean that your standard act of god/idiocy is not covered under warrenty.

When sending the system I should not:

"Do not send the monitor."

Anyway, pretty much I''m screwed when it comes to the warrenty I believe.

The screen size is 14 inches I believe, perhaps 13.5.

I would say that it is worth the repair... Have you considered eBay to look for the screen itself and repair it yourself?

Does anyone know how much something like this might cost?
