when I try to compile my program I get only one error message in the ariea that compile errors occur <89 work4.cpp warning: converting NULL to non-pointer type> this happens in reference to CreateWindowEx that has four NULL''s in it, now when I try to compile a window comes up called "compiler and linker output" inside that window it says g++: file path prefix `E:\DEV-C_~1\BIN\'' never used g++: e:\dev-c++\myproject\ddraw.lib: linker input file unused since linking not done what kind of error is this? and how do I fix it? if you need the code I will post it.

You probably have a NULL

CreateWindowEx(Here, __, __, here, here, here, here, or here, __, __, __, __);
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

I have another program that has the same warning and it compiles fine! here is more stuff frome the window that pops up

e:\dev-c++\myproject\project4\work4.cpp: In function `int WinMain(HINSTANCE__ *, HINSTANCE__ *, CHAR *, int)'':
e:\dev-c++\myproject\project4\work4.cpp:89: warning: converting NULL to non-pointer type
g++: e:\dev-c++\myproject\ddraw.lib: linker input file unused since linking not done

and here is the createwindow function(I still don''t think this is the problem)

hwnd = CreateWindowEx(NULL,
"WINCLASS1",
"game experement",
WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW | WS_VISIBLE,
200,200,
400,400,
NULL,
NULL,
hinstance,
NULL)))

The NULL thing is you passing null as the first argument to CreateWindowEx, which is a number, not a pointer, so pass 0.

that got rid of the null problem but I still get this
g++: file path prefix `E:\DEV-C_~1\BIN\'' never used
g++: e:\dev-c++\myproject\ddraw.lib: linker input file unused since linking not done

and it still does not compile!

Anything that comes with the *.lib extention is a microsoft library file (ddraw.lib), and apparently your using Dev-C++. What you want is to find the MinGW version of the DirectX SDK (libddraw.a).
That's just my understanding; I could be wrong.
PPCThug

after hours of searching the web I found libddraw.a in a folder in dev-c++ directory! I removed ddraw.lib from my project and added libddraw.a and yet I still get the same problem!
g++: file path prefix `E:\DEV-C_~1\BIN\'' never used
g++: e:\dev-c++\lib\libddraw.a: linker input file unused since linking not done

The ''E:\DEV-C_~1\BIN'' probably shouldn''t be there, (did you add it to the configuration?), change ''e:\dev-c++\lib\libddraw.a'' to just ''-lddraw'', and if it isn''t linking, then maybe you''re trying to create a library instead of a gui/console/dll.

I didn''t add ''E:\DEV-C_~1\BIN'' and the closest thing to it is E:\DEV-C++\Bin\ which is the default bin directory, there is no libddraw just libddraw.a which I added to my project from a file window
