modeling tools - Rhino
I am looking at a few tools. I am kind of a newbee with graphics related software and tools.
Also, I am not willing ( at this time ) to throw down a big wad of cash. So far I have looked at MilkShape and I am going to download Rhino and give it a shot.
I would like to hear some feedback about Rhino. Anyone use it?
Is it a satisfactory replacement for more expensive software?
Jim
Rhino was the first tool I ever used. Rhino''s a very good modeller for simple shapes - very simple to use. However, if you want to make organic objects (like people) its not so great.
Also, its renderer is very primitive and it doesn''t animate.
Of course, its been a while since I''ve used it!!
Rhino3d is a GREAT program to pair up with another 3d program. Since it simpler objects can be modelled MUCH faster in rhino.

I know you probably don't have the cash... but I love 3DS MAX. I've never used Rhino... or anything other than 3DS MAX for that matter (I've used several versions of 3DS MAX)... I might try Milkshape for the sake of being able to tell people that don't have major green to shell out that it works. HEHE... But really I think just about any program can be used... Rhino appears to be one of the nice ones out there... If you have skill you can model anything so don't be fooled by what others say. It all depends on you!
Also incase your curious I've heard Maya 4 has a $20 demo or something... I hear it is under &2000 now. The demo is fully functional, except for the watermark on your renderings... Something like that.
Have fun...
Why sleep? You can do that when your dead.
(Hope you don't mind if I borrow this: )

Most of you have heard me say this before but, Blender. The first free 3D modeler I tried and one I still use a lot. It''s free and powerful. You should give it an honest try, nothing to lose anyways.
I have Rhino 2.0 and quite frankly it is freaking insane! check the "post your art" post to see some of the work i did in it, and here is a a lil something im working on in rhino right now...
F-23 Sedlak - seems as though the server is down :-
It is very easy to use and exports to .3ds so if you happen to get 3ds max...some how, u can render nicely, also
look into penguin - http://www.penguin3d.com - its a plugin for rhino which allows for cel shading and pencil drawing rendering, i love it
