Hello everyone! Let me start off by saying Happy New Year! Now I''ve been working dev projects for a good amount of time, and I have seen my share of failed projects, broken promises, and shattered teams. The fact is that when working on a non-profit project, motivations, and expectations, tend to be a lot lower then they would be, otherwise. What ends up happening is that people invest a good amount of time and energy into creating something that never gets completed; which of course is disappointing for all parties involved. I think that what a team is creating is not as important as the connection and communication between the different members of the group. This leads me to believe that if enough dedicated members of the community got together, we could create something on a grande scale, something that might rival other professional projects. It is for this reason that I am trying to put together a team of programmers that will be able to go on and create some interesting projects. What I am looking for are people who are interested in not only starting, but also completing something; people who are willing to do their best and to work together. Don''t get me wrong, I don''t expect people to devote a good amount of time to this; time isn''t as important as dedication. In any case, I thought that once enough of us got together, we could create a engine, and then use that to create a game. I have a few ideas bouncing around in my head, but once a good foundation is laid I think that we could really go anywhere. C++ will probably end up being the language we will use, but whether it is DirectX or OpenGL will depend on the proficiency of the members in either API. If you think you are interested in joining a stable team, and working on a project that will actually be completed, then you have come to the right place. Please contact me at r.daneel@verizon.net for more information. Thanks for your time, and happy holidays! rdaneel

Firstly, I think that all people who set out on these projects intend to carry them through to the end. Its just a lot of them quickly lose heart. Are you a programmer yourself or are you just trying to get a team together that can create a game with you? And time does matter btw. All the dedication in the world wouldn't get you an engine built if your coders could only spend 20mins a week doing so. They might be dedicated for those twenty minutes but what about after.

If things seem bad, think that they can get a whole load worse, and they don't seem so bad anymore

Hello!

hammerstein_02,
I am a programmer myself, proficient in C++ and Java. I have a good knowledge of DirectX, and a mediocre one of OpenGL. You are right, of course, when you say that time does matter, what I meant however was that I cannot really expect any one to devote a ludicrous amount of time. Rather if everyone devotes a few hours a week, we can get a lot done.

Thanks,

Alright Dovyman, I sent you an email with some more information. Is there anyone else interested?

I agree with you on everything, but my question is :
Has the decision about the idea and engine already been felt?

Because I have a good idea, I have a good story, I have the (pretty good and stable) foundations for an engine and I would continue on the project myself, but I am afraid of two things:
1st, that I will get no artists for the 3d models and music
(which is a serious threat - I think you agree with me on that)
2nd, that I would suffer from what you have mentioned - loss of interest.

So if it would be possible, that I would bring my own project into this (C++, OpenGL) (and I promise that it is a good project) then I would gladly join.

I forgot to mention - I would gladly send you all information about the project I am working on, if it would be needed.

Subnet,
I''m open to suggestions, so go ahead an email me some information about your project. I would gladly look it over and maybe we can work together.

Thanks,

Just think if all the talanted game dev(programmers, artists, sound artists) all got together, gamedev.net community could make one of the best games out. I mean if you make a fps game, just think how many levels you could make! 500? Maybe more? With all the artists you could have 1000 different types of bad guys? all the good ideas put into one game. Extreamly good AI and special effects. There are so many smart people here and everyone is just doing there own thing, why not join together and make a gamedev project? If things go good, all of the money can goto gamedev.net and other game dev sites! This can be more content, contests, more books can be written etc. Everyone will be apart of it if they wish. Also it would be the first in history I think.

Interested in being apart of a team of people that are developing a toolkit that can help anyone product an online game? Then click here http://tangle.thomson.id.au/

making a team structure for something like that would be a nightmare -- you''d need 10 levels of project management to manage all the different aspects, if not more ;0

so no thanks.

Although a community project would be interesting, that is not exactly what I am shooting for. The amount of control it would take to keep all those people on task would have to be pretty huge. I''m trying to put together a team of about 10 dedicated programmers, that can work on this task together. The only requirement would be that very dedication. So if you are interested, please mail me.

Thanks again,
rdaneel
