What''s the average cpu temp for an athlon xp 2000? Mine was running at 49 degrees celsius (120 F) and suddenly my power supply went out. Is this too hot?

Mine is running at 32F

EDIT: Yes, 120F is WAY too hot. Keep it under 70F

Athlon XPs are rated to run up to 90°C, but yuo REALLY don't want it running that hot. My 2400 runs at about ~40°C. My old Athlon 1.2GHz ran about 55°C constantly. I have my 2400 set to warn if it every gets up to 50°C and the warning hasn't gone off yet.

In the area of 40 to 70 degrees centigrade. No biggy, my last Duron lasted 18 months at those temps and was still going strong when I upgraded so I guess that''s what they''re meant to run at.

My Athlon XP 2000+ runs at 50 degrees

Have you seen the heat-sink/fan combination of the P4??? It''s bloody massive! I''ll bet it runs at something like 30

amd chips usually run at very high temperatures, something between 50-70 C..
must be the shitty heatsinks they are shipped with :S

I bet it runs at something like 120 decibels.

My XP 2000+ runs at about 50 degrees too. With no overclocking in mind, I picked less powerful but quieter fan. It was a very good choice.

would it be safe if i were to take out all the fans in the computer and just dump it in a pool of pure water?

um

better yet, any other non conductable liquid with high heat sink

My 1700XP runs at around 58 degrees C all the time. But it does have a cheap (crap) heatsink...

my athlon xp 2000+ is running on stock cooling at 115F or 46C. AlthonXPs in general can run fine at really high temps (80 C) before they burn up. I''ve run mine at 130F and had no problem. The reason the power will shut off is because some mobos have an auto shutoff if the processor reaches a certain temp. But the cooler you''re running, the better!

Liquid nitrogen.

BTW, would it run if it was being soaked in liquid nitrogen?

I don't know, but the liquid nitrogen would very quickly become gaseous nitrogen. If you had a way to keep liquid nitrogen cool enough to remain liquid form, you might as well just apply it to the processor.

I mean, have the liquid nitrogen contained in a tube and flowing over the processor, so it wouldn''t escape.. that would prevent it from becoming gas, right?

Nitrogen flowing across processor in a tube, with no bottom where the processor is, so it touches the processor, while remaining air-tight.

No, it would become gas as it heats up. Liquid nitrogen has a VERY low evaporation temperature (which is why it has to be either very cold or under a lot of pressure to be in liquid form, and why air at room temperature can have gaseous nitrogen in it).
