I have looked at a couple of the tutorials on this site and even have a book on DirectDraw. So far I have no luck in understanding DirectDraw... (which I find sad cus I know Direct3D pretty well), anyway, Does anyone know of a DirectDraw tutorial that explains every detail or even a template for a DirectDraw app... thanks much

Tricks of the Windows game programming gurus by andre lamothe does a very good jod on explaining Direct Draw.

I also recommend LaMothe''s book. TOTWGPG is probably the best intro to DirectDraw there is. If you want a tutorial instead, I''m not sure which ones on this site you''ve tried, but look at this one. I wrote it a couple of years ago. It gets into DDraw around Part IV, and has several sample programs.

I really can''t believe that you don''t understand DD if you know D3D "very well". Anyway, you might take a look at the tutorial at http://www.2dgame-tutorial.com/, it''s a well documented encapsulation of DD. You should know C++, of course, to understand what''s going on. I would also suggest that you try to implement the initialization steps that are described in the SDK documenation. I found the initialization was the hardest part when I started with DX years ago. One hint for writing a DD wrapper is to encapsulate the surfaces, so that you can easily reload them.
