Most modern video cards have features which allow the CPU-intensive bits of decoding mpeg video to be done in hardware (like colour-space conversion and motion compensation). Does anyone know where I can find information on how to access these hardware features from software. For example, if I have a decoded frame from an mpeg in YCbCR format is there a way of getting my video card to process it into RGB, doing the colourspace conversion in hardware? Are there any tutorials on accessing such hardware features?

You could try digging into the xfree86 source code, and also the source from www.mplayerhq.hu.

If you just want to use it, not write code to handle it, then xfree86 might do everything for you.
