Problem With Executables

Ok since I started writing simple games I can only get them to run through Visual Studio 6. I write them, click Execute and they work fine. But if I go into Windows Explorer and double click the executable that is created the screen goes black like it normally would for a second changing the video mode then it just goes back to my desktop. The programs do not run. Does anyone have any ideas about why this happens and what I can do to get a stand alone executable? Thanks.

Do you load ressources that you assume to be at the relative location?

For example, if you load "picture.bmp" and it's located in the root folder of you project, when you "Execute" your application in VC, the "current folder" will be this root folder, even if your application is built in say... ./Debug. So when you run in in ./Debug, you don't have the file in you "current folder".

Sorry for my English :/ I'm quite tired and I seem to have difficulties expressing myself
