I just overclocked my Athlon XP 1900 (1.6 ghz) to about 1.63 ghz or something and now my CPU is running at about 118 degrees F (47 C). Is that a healthy temp for my CPU? Thanks /me hopes he doesn''t damage his CPU

So you overclocked a 1600 MHz processor to 1630 MHz? 30 MHz? Pshaw! Come on! Lets see you get it to 1800 MHz!

but it whent up in temp....
If you were MEANT to understand it, we wouldn't have called it 'code'

I don''t really see the value in over clocking as it greatly increses the chances of burning your cards... Now if there was a way to overclock RAM, then I might be willing to try that shit ^_^

Um, there is. .sen

I''d take a screen shot of my bios but I''m afraid thats not possible.

... what I meant (jokingly), trick the computer into thinking there''s more RAM than there really is?

Get an Athlon XP Thoroughbred 1700+, that''s the best overclockng CPU. I know of a guy who got his 1700+ up to ~3000MHz.

Overclocking is worth it, especially if you''re smart My friend got an AthlonXP 1700+ and is overclocking to 2.4GHz (that''s GHz, not 2400+). He''s up to 2.2GHz with just the processor and he''s waiting for his new botherboard and RAM so he can go up higher. So yeah, in certain cases it can definitely be worth it.

I would always overclock my CPU (well, FSB) by at least 10%, or more if it''s a processor that''s good for overclocking. If you play games, overclocking your video card (if you have a decent one) is also quite worthwhile. I gained an FPS increase of 25% just by overclocking my video card.

Yes, the lifespan of those parts will probably go down, but chances are they will still last well over their practical lifespan before you upgrade, even if you upgrade very seldomly like me. Besides, something breaking is an excuse to buy a new part

And by the way, 47C is quite low for a CPU temperature, don''t worry about it.
