hey everyone - What type of 3d modeling software is used by you all? I want to start doing some(actually to teach my roommate who would be a great modeler), and i''m pretty sure that 3d studio max is the defacto program, but i don''t think i could afford that So what do you guys recommend for a limited budget. deflin39

I recommend Milkshape. It imports and exports many formats and only costs around $20. I think it be a little more once 2.0 comes. It is a great program for its price.

It will also take u like 5 mins to figure out how to write plugins for milkshape.

3dsm is best IMO.

You may want to check out blender. Its a donation based 3d modeler. I''ve seen some impressive stuff done with it. I dont know what you can export to with it though.

well I used to do some real animating and create still images too, and I have always used truespace. It too has some good export formats, including 3ds, lightwave, .x dxf etc. I like it cuz of its interface and its really good tools that allow you to create something way faster then with e.g. 3d max or maya

From what I''ve heard 3dsMax it''s pretty good, Maya it''s pretty nice too...anyway those aren''t free so I''d have to go with Blender.
The monkeys are listening...

Truespace is the devil. Do NOT use it

Its the equivlent of acid to a musician, crayns to a artist.
