Just wanted to know how this IDE stacks up to the competition. I''ve used other Borland IDEs and found them to be very intuitive. At the moment I''m currently using TextPad to write up my Java code (about time for an upgrade). I looked over the "Feature Sheet" at Borland''s sight, and it seems the Personal/Professional/Enterprise versions of JBuilder all have the same features... so what''s the real difference? I know commercial apps can''t be built with the Personal Edition, but as for the other two, they seem to be identical.

Haha... whoops...

Looks like I was a bit too quick to post, I didn''t even notice the feature matrix was several pages long

Anyhow, what does everyone think of JBuilder.

I haven''t used it before, but I generally like Borland products. The only Java IDE I''ve really ever used before is JCreator, which has the nice benefit of being free

It''s a pretty good IDE. I think it was probably the best as far as debugger and drag-and-drop GUI building until Eclipse came out...then well...you know...

JBuilder still has the advantage of that it''s still the best for drag and drop gui building. Eclipse does not have that functionality yet, but Eclipse is amazing. It''s also free, so I''d try that out as well.

Give both JBuilder and Eclipse a try. See which one you like best. It seems as though the industry is starting to swear by Eclipse.

The personal edition is basically useless. You can only write applets and applications with it, and many of the options are greyed out. One of the major things missing is JSP/Servlet support.

But that could well be just me. Download it the Personal edition and see if it suits you. It didn''t suit me and I''m not using Netbeans.

We are on JBuilder 6 where I work.

Rather than paying the ridiculous price to upgrade, we''re migrating to Eclipse. JBuilder isn''t bad. It''s got it''s quirks though.

Value for money you can''t beat eclipse though.

At one time I used jbuilder 4 - I remember it being very slow.

I actually don''t like JBuilder. The other Borland product are fine bug JB has many bugs, it''s quite not user friendly and especialy if you''re going to use its API for plugin writing - it''s quite a mess
I used to code in Kawa, but now I''m using Prosyst mBedded Builder. I think it''s one of the best Java IDEs. Yout could get it from here:
