Alright, I''v been using the net on USB for about 3 months now. The reason is that I couldn''t install this dang ethernet card. Oh well, still got internet, no complaints. Now, we are doing a shared internet thing. Problem? I can''t get this new wireless network card working either! I called Linksys, since they made it and everything , and after following through the problem, they told me I had a bad Network Controller. What the heck is a network controller and why is mine bad? How can I replace or fix something if I don''t even know what it is? What is it? I mean, I assume it controlls the network, but is it a card, part of the OS, what? Any help anybody

It''s familiar, but I can''t remember off the top of my head. I have a question though. Why didn''t you ask the guy on the phone?

Because they simply said to call the manufacturer of my computer, and tell them, and I agreed, hung up, then I realised maybe I could fix this on my own since I''m not retarded and everything, and then I realised I diddn''t know what a network controller was, contracted my thought about not being retarded, and posted here.

Maybe I''m not reatarded after all, no one seems to know what a network controller actually is.

My best guess would be that it is a part of the OS and that they told u it is a problem with that because the don;t really know

Thats what I was thinking too . What really made me think that is that they told me to basically bother someone else. Urggh!

Anyways, maybe someone here has had a similar problem.

I''m running windows XP.
I install the card while power is off.
Turn on computer.
Automatic hardware install thing starts at startup.
Put in set-up CD-rom.
"Does not pass windows logo testing blah blah continue anyway" <-not the problem.
Then it has trouble finding a file, this may or may not be related to the problem, but I doubt it. I find the file on the CD for it and click ok.
Then the problem: Unable to install hardware: Network controller.
The Data is Invalid.

Any help?

Your having problems?

WiFi Speed Spray is your answer!

I almost thought it was a real product for a second there. However, after carefull consideration, I decided it wouldn''t satisfy the issues I''m having.

While I''m not sure exactly what they mean by network conroller, but a best guess would be the network card itself could be bad. Do you have a spare machine you can put it in and test it with? Also did you download the latest drivers? Perhaps the ones that came with it are not XP compatible.

It might be part of the mobo''s chip set, in which case if it was bad u''d have to replay ur mobo. But thats just a total guess.

On my LAN card packaging it says ''High performance network controller card''.

It was unrelated, the technicall suport was wrong.

The problem was with a windows XP security glitch when installing drivers. I fixed it by changing the security off on all my PCI card info in the registry. It worked!

If anyone else has "The Data Is Invalid" problem, this is almost certainly the case.

A Network Controller, for example... a NIC
