I''ve settled to making my little platform game in a manga like style... anyone know good resources for tips & tricks on drawing manga? As I''m really bad at drawing humans... can only draw animals... I''m talking about something similar to dragon ball z or sailor moon... Any other tricks or suggestions? J2xC (J. I''m no artist. I''m pretty much at the stage you''re at, maybe less, but the only way is practice. Dumb suggestion? Yeah, but it''s true. But if you have a block where everything you draw always has the same mistake, copy someone else. Once you get past the block, you can add your own style. The fortunate thing about manga (especially manga girls) is that the style is more or less the same (eyes, mouth, and nose). A good place to start.

Oh, if you can find a good web resource is, tell me. I''ve tried searching the web and I haven''t got much to show for it. Not manga style stuff anyway (if you know Japanese, even better - I think there''s a Japanese site... I think...).

how to draw anime web page

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

There''s a series of books that are tutorials in drawing the manga way.

They are separated by subject matter and genre. I''ll be dropping by an anime con this weekend, so I''ll keep an eye out for the titles.

Loads of thanks to y''all, AP it would be great if you could note down any good books for beginners, and Sunshadow: looks like a great site Thanks again!

Yeah, thanks from me too sunandshadow!

Had a look at the site linked above. It's OK. Covers a bit, but... the drawings don't look "right". So I follwed a link that site had to another site at http://www.jdillon.net/ and I thought that one looked "better". Not that I'm saying the original site is bad, I just think the art at the new link appeals to me more. And any site that shows me how to draw Rei Ayanami gets my thumb up

oh god not more manga
Hey, I as well don''t particularly like anime or manga, but some of those
cell shading tutorials were very interesting. Mostly with Photoshop 5
and Paint Shop Pro 6. I just read them for the outline and coloring
techniques, not how to draw this stuff. I''m always on the lookout for
a good cell shading tutorial and special fx effects.

Hey again... I just drew this today... first attempt... but the scanner made it look even worse than it is already

What do you think? Suggestions for improvement(apart from me learning to do image editing properly... )

The arms and feet are awful aren't they... anyone know how I do em better?

Oh... and the long stick thing on the right is meant to be a pony tail... I never really thought I'd get into art much, but it's quite interesting... pity I'm not very good... I suppose time will help tho'

That is a cool site! I always wanted to learn how to draw Anime stuffs.. I just didn''t know the "formula"... I just drew a pic but it looks like I am going to need some more time . I am a more comic-ish drawer but my stlye is more cartoon. here is a comic style one...

Lines are to sketchy.. draw light untill you get the form you are looking for. Then Draw over the lines you want to keep and erase all the light lines.. you will end up with a cleaner image. From there you can shade it or get it ready for photoshop.I think it is a good start.
