Quite a few new moderators have emerged from everyday users over the last couple of months (3yrold23yrold, Strife, LessBread come to mind immediately). Just now I noticed Null and Void has been promoted to the Moderator status at Nehe's. Did this happen to help contain the massive outburst of mental terrorism that roamed freely on these boards (well, at least the Lounge) up to just a month or so ago? I've noticed a lot of very intelligent threads lately, which is a feat to the eyes (and no trash posts at all - or very few in general) - I hope the massive drafting of new moderators played a role in that. To the new moderators: how much have you executed your Godly powers? How many of us mortals have you sent on probation/banned, how many posts edited/deleted? I'm asking out of sheer curiosity just to see how strict you guys secretly are because quite frankly I haven't noticed you use/take advantage of the powers you've been vested with at all! edit: where is mittens? where's dwarfsoft? the only mods I've seen in the Lounge recently are Yann, Magmai and bishop, and they're here very casually and not at all often. This almost sounds like a trap... [edited by - crispy on September 6, 2003 2:29:27 PM]

I remember a few days ago there were a bunch of threads locked...seems to have calmed down though. I''ve seen dwarfsoft here though recently, I don''t know about mittens.

I want to know where Jim Adams is. I haven''t seen him post in the DirectX forum for ages and his posting history hasn''t updated. I hope he is still around and writing books.

The angel of death stands between heaven and earth, holding a poison-dripping sword. Identified with Satan, he is full of powers, a diligent reaper, an old fugitive and wanderer like Cain, a beggar, a pedlar, an Arab nomad, a skeleton, capering with sinners and misers in a jugglers'' dance. But the nightmarish angel presents a different face to the one who has died before death, who has attained some measure of the apathea of a saint. We are told that Azrael, Death, appears to our spirit in a form determined by our beliefs, actions, and dispositions during life. He may even manifest invisibly so the man may die of a rose, a rheumatic pain, or of a rotting stench. When the soul sees Azrael, it falls in love, and its gaze is thus withdrawn from the body as if by a seduction. Great prophets and saints may even be politely invited by Death, who appears to them in corporeal form. Thus it was with Moses and with Mohammed. When the Persian poet Rumi lay on his deathbed, Azrael appeared as a beautiful youth and said, "I am come by divine command to enquire what commission the Master may have to entrust in you." In fact, a strange connection becomes apparent between mors and amor, love and death. The moment of extinction in the pleasure of love resembles that of death, and thus, that of the mystical. In mythic terms, Eros and Thanatos are almost twins, for in some cases Death appears as a lovely youth and Eros as a withered starveling. Both love and death are gateways, hence their eternal adolescence and their fixation in the midst of the rite of passage.

I''ve deleted the odd moronic post. It''s all I can do not to delete those stupid "On Soviet GameDev, blah blah blah" posts The ones I''ve deleted range from stretching the tables to 4x width, to the occasional stupid picture amongst serious posts (KBab didn''t like that; oh well ). I''m trying to keep it to a minimum though; I don''t want people complaining that their posts keep disappearing (invalid as that complaint may be ... since the posts need to be stupid before they''re deleted ). I''ve done quite a bit of closing too. Not sure what the standard for probation is though, so I haven''t used that little button (yet) ...

Since I am scared, I must make the face of a scared rabbit.

Sorry about that - I have this disease: I rearrange sets of numbers in my head so that they''re always in increasing order. I do this only for groups of numbers told to me no more than 10 seconds apart. For instance, if you told me your telephone number (761287634), I''d memorize 123466778 instead. That''s, of course, unless you make a long pause somewhere in the middle. So - next time you choose a name like that, make sure people with disabilities wouldn''t have trouble remembering it

Damn, that was good. Where''d you get it from?

Of the new mods mentioned, I''ve been a mod the longest. I haven''t banned anyone. I''ve put a couple of users on probation. I''ve closed dozens of threads and edited a small handful of posts. I prefer to issue a warning and then respond appropriately to the response I get from that warning. Most of the time the problems are dealt with by another mod before I even find out about them.

If you''re wondering why the number of trash posts have declined - the "old" moderators and Dave have been busy banning various trouble makers.

No, he''s been made the moderator of Everything Unix, taking over from me because I don''t have the time for it anymore. Consequently, I am now a roving moderator at Dave''s request.

More moderators were appointed to help deal with the summer swell of bored intellectual nitwits, and the start-of-school-year college dumbass rush.

As for statistics and your paranoia, that''s need-to-know...

Hey! How yould you forget me! I haven't been using my new powers a lot. There hasn't been a lot of need for it in the hours i'm online. Most of you have been remakabely good loungers lately. I haven't banned anyone, not put anyone on probation (altough I'm keeping a close eye one a few members....)

For the rest: I closed a few threads that dangerously headed towards flamewars. I edited out one profanity (TSwitch's IIRC) and deleted a few double posted threads.

Oh, I''m here. I''m always here. And I''m always watching you.

For instance, don''t think I didn''t see what you were doing under your blanket last night. You disgust me. I mean, come on, WHY JANET RENO?!

Okay, let''s get some facts straight here.

1) I''m not Jay Reno. I mean, hello!
2) I''m a little embarassed because of your vile disclosure of my nightlife, so here''s a blushing bunny:

3) That bunny is blushing - this fact is irrefutable
