Quake3+Lightmaps?

I use OpenGl and I don´t know which blending mode I should use for rendering the Lightmaps in my Q3-Viewer,currently I use glBlend(NULL,GL_SRC_COLOR) but this gives way too dark results(I have to set my montitor´s brightness to the max to see something in the level). But what do I have to do to get the lightmapping to work: 1.Use another blend mode. 2.Set an insane gamma-value with glSetDeviceGammaRamp. 3.Overbright not only the lightmaps but the textures too. Thanx in advance,XBTC!

Thanx!
But I already overbright the lightmaps, this makes the output a little brighter but it is still way too dark.Any further ideas?

AnonymousPoster:Sorry I can not help you with this one.My viewer is nearly complete but you guess what does he miss so far....
I didn´t look into the curve-thingy so far but I think this will be the most difficult part especially if speed is concerned.I don´t know how q3 does it but all other q3-viewer calc the patches ahead of time and do not alter them at runtime....
Perhaps Carmack does this too and stores three differently tesslated versions of the patch ahead of time?Dunno but anyway do you perhaps have a solution too my lightmap problem?

Thanx in advance,XBTC!

Hi!

Regarding the curve-thing:

Q3 precalculates the bezier patches at load time and then ''drops'' rows/columns of the precalculated meshes dynamically at run-time. This dropping is realized based on frame-rate and/or distance to mesh.

Regarding the lightmaps:

I think GL_DST_COLOR, GL_SRC_COLOR could work. I read somewhere that it reduces the loss of brightness. I can''t check it, since I don''t have access to my code at the moment, but you should be able to try this easily.

Thanx alot!
The curves:I knew even Carmack couln´t do it at runtime
The lightmaps:
Thanx i´ll give it a try....

Greets,XBTC!

I had the same problems... I think Q3 uses some extensions. on nVidia cards, they should use the NV_REGISTER_COMBINERS. If I remember right, the extended GL_ADD blending should do the job just fine. Hmm... I can''t remember which blending I used for my lightmaps ;-))
