I just adjusted the gamma correction on my display to supposedly the correct levels, and it made my contest entry in the 4 elements contest look really lame and washed out. I could be wrong about this, but I have the sneaking suspicion that it looks much the same on everybody else's systems. I'd really appreciate it if some people could give me some feedback on this. My entry is here. If you can't tell, just tell me this: does the earth wizard look orange or brown? (he's supposed to look brown) Thanks in advance http://www.geocities.com/ben32768 Edited by - benjamin bunny on 7/3/00 7:47:12 AM

He was brown on my machine. The only problem I had with the entry was that the background texture was fuzzed. Don''t worry though, my vid card does that to several games, and I have no idea why.

Can you run Quake 3 on your computer? If so, openGL isn't a problem. Chances are your machine doesn't have a stencil buffer or can't access it. One fix is to switch your display to 32-bit, as 16-bit modes sometimes don't have a stencil buffer. (I would have put in a color depth changer, but I didn't want to give it another reason to crash. )

My card doesn''t support 32 bit color and doesn''t support 24 bit rendering. It most likely doesn''t have a stencil buffer.

I was going to write a no-stencils version (openGL has no way of telling if a stencil is hardware or software, so it can't autodetect), but I ran out of time. It's just a matter of taking a couple of state changes out though, so let me know if you're interested and I'll put up on my site (sans shadows, sadly).

btw, what card are you using?

Don''t worry about it...I''ll try it on my Viper 770 today...I just updated the drivers yesterday and OGL runs fine now.

hey, ben bunny, that things pretty cool! Nice effects and killer concept (I myself was having trouble thinking of a way to visualize wind).

Very nice, indeed. Good work!

Thanks. I''m glad you liked it

Actually I''d forgotten the element was wind - I thought it was air, and I was mid-way through making a poison gas cloud spell, when I checked the contest page and saw it was wind I was supposed to be doing, and had to change it.

The wind spell is pretty useless though, cos I toned it down at the last minute (the AI players kept blowing me away - literally), and I didn''t have time to test it before I uploaded it, so now the wind is about as useful as a... unuseful thing.

I''m thinking of doing wizard duel as my first online multiplayer project, just to see how it''s done... with more spells, and other funky stuff (I''m playing with real-time cloth simulation at the moment) but I''m not sure if anyone would want to play it. Any thoughts, anyone?
