I''m looking for a good beginner direct3d 9.0, anyone recommend anything? I''m so far considering these two: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/155622902X/qid=1066621570/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-3641652-5563152?v=glance&s=books http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1556229135/ref=pd_sbs_b_2/104-3641652-5563152?v=glance&s=books Any reviews or alternatives to these would be appreciated

The author of ShaderX2: Introductions and Tutorials with DirectX 9.0 is Wolfgang Engel. I liked Wolfgang''s first book; but based on past posts I can tell you that a lot of people don''t seem to like his writting style (especially beginners). That said; Wolfgang''s second book, Direct3D ShaderX: Vertex and Pixel Shader Tips and Tricks with CDROM, was fairly highly reviewed on Amazon.

You may want to take a look a Strategy Game Programming With Directx 9.0 2003 as well.

Strategy Game Programming with DirectX9 is NOT a good DX beginner book.
I''d recommend Programming Role-Playing Games With DirectX8.
It covers more DX and all the basic 3D things.

Agreed, Role-Playing Games With DirectX8 is a good book. However, it may not be a good choice for DirectX 9 sense it uses Jim Adams game core for DirectX 8.1 starting in chapter 10?

I still think that''s(the core) better than the DirectX Framework that comes with the SDK.
