I just saw a trailer of the new Cat in the Hat movie coming out and realized that I forgot that I grew up loving Dr. Seuss. My favourite book was Oh The Places You''ll Go. Did anyone else here grow up loving Dr. Seuss books?

My favorite Dr. Seuss is The Sneetches, I have most of it memorized. ^_^

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

As someone who has never been all that exposed to the good doctor, I have to say that I quite enjoyed The Grinch when it came out. On video. And my sister rented it.

Dr Seuss isn''t as popular outside of the USA, so I didn''t see one until recently (and I''m an oldie). I must admit it was brilliant. It was the one where the Cat in the Hat comes to play on a rainy day, and causes mischief, and he has all the other little cats in his hat. Wonderful stuff. I can''t wait till my son is old enough to read them!

In this particularly square inch of Limeyland (ie, my house), Dr Seuss is highly regarded. I have original copies of the first printing of "The Grinch", "The Lorax", and "Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?". The latter is a fabulous book, and you can''t match the artwork in any of the three. The teletubbies can kiss the good doctor''s arse.

I honestly think that Dr. Seuss rivals Shakespeare as the greatest writer in the English language to ever have lived.

Everyone laughs when I say that, but I''m totally serious.

Random Fact: His real name is Theadore Seuss Geisel, and "Seuss" is actually pronounced "Soyce," not "Soose" (rhyming with goose). His parents were German immigrants. I guess no one in the English speaking world learned to pronounce his name properly because his only presence for a long time was print, and by the time the television specials and such came around people were already calling him "Soose." Oh well. Dr. "Soyce" doesn''t sound very nice anyway

The Grinch was awsome man, probably because I watch the original every year on CBC. I actually want to see The Cat in the Hat - looks kind of funny.

The Lorax makes me sad.

When I was a kid, we had the book with the Sneetches, and a couple other stories. My brother and my favorite was the one about the woman with 49 children and she named them all Dave. Seuss goes through all the possible names, including Oliver-Boliver Butt, which always put us on the floor laughing.

Fox in Sox.

Read it as quickly as possible. You will never be the same again.

And that's funny, they only had good things to say about the movie on Craig Kilborn's talk show. But then again, they had the 9 year old girl who starred in the movie on the show at the time. *COUGH*

I guess it's not a movie that TV wants to trash willingly, with the holidays coming up. Hollywood has to pay its bills and all.

One of the readings for my English class (University, mind you) was Yertle the Turtle . It''s amazing how deep that book is, although the moral is not exactly subtle.

My prof (who also teaches children''s lit) has had term papers on the philosophical meaning of One Fish, Two Fish, Read Fish, Blue Fish , which if I recall, is a completely nonsensical story. But it''s been about ten years since I read it.

Preach it.

The previews, I''m sure, are enough to have my beloved childhood entertainer rolling in his grave. I love Dr. Seuss books. I dont think there is one I dislike. I also love the cartoon remakes of them since they go word for word from the books.

Unfortunately they aren''t on TV that often. I haven''t gone searching for them too hard but I would imagine that they are quite rare.

Dr. Seuss books are the best. My high school computer science teacher would read his books to us often, and every time she found something that related to computer science The scary part was that most of the time hearing the book helped the class understand C++. Of course, that's when my friend and I would have competitions to see who could finish the assignment first with our monitors off listening to Dr. Seuss. But that's a different story.

I loved the movie version of the Grinch, but from what I've seen and heard about the Cat in the Hat, I don't think I'll be watching it unless the movie makes a clear effort to be watched by me.

I''ve never read Dr. Seuss. What''s so good about it?
