Hi, I am currently making a custom assert function and I want it to pop up a dialog box that I have designed so that custom information can be passed into it. I can get a dialog box to pop up using a resource file but I was thinking about it and I think it would be better to avoid using a resource file because I would need to merge it with any other resource files my application would use (at least I think I would unless its possible to have more then one resource file in a project?). So my question is how would I create a dialog box from scratch and add the controls so that I wouldnt have to use the CreateWindowEX function and without a resource file? Thanks

You do have to use the CreateWindow/CreateWindowEx function, and then add the controls with the CreateWindow function too, with the WS_CHILD style specified. Look up the window classes for the controls in the msdn library.

Why don''t you want to use CreateWindow?
If it''s because it returns immediately after the window is created, and the parent window is still accessable(ie it''s a non modal window), take a look at this toturial http://www.codeproject.com/dialog/modal_message.asp?target=modal, to make it behave like a dialog box.
