Hi I am trying to modify a program written in VB which has already been created as an executable file (*.exe). I am having trouble opening the file(*.exe) in my VB editor. What have I done wrong? Does anyone know any good and thorough online resources for learning VB? Thanks in advance

I concur.

Dude, you can't modify an EXE file. It's already been compiled.

If you want to modify someone else's VB program, you're gonna need the project file (.VBP extentsion), as well as some other form files (.FRM) and module files (.BAS) that contain the actual code.

You can't open .exe's with VB, or any other compiler that I know of. You need the source files to edit the program.

Its okay, I deleted it. If you look at some of that guys threads he started, it really seems like he made this thread as a joke, or he simply is missing a few marbles.

Yes you can but, learning VB has nothing to do with it its called reverse engineering. Yet, its not neceassarly always legal, and its not something I would recommened to anyone who doesn't know how to code in VB yet, and even then I wouldn't really recommend it. You'll probably never see the true VB source agian once its into a machine pe file format (exe).

Well, you can probably find a decompiler somewhere.

Yeah.

What I should have said is: you can''t modify it directly.

In any event, messing around with decompilers is probably not something a newbie should be doing.
