I know that without a doubt I could work with any number of people on projects. I can design weapons, gear, combat systems, plots, subplots, not big on level design, but I could probably even muddle through that if necessary. I've helped people with a variety of weapon, armor and technology ideas.
That being said though, when I look at my 'baby': No, I don't want collaboration. I just look at what has happened to Everquest and other games that start out one way and then go straight to hell in a handbasket, losing all sense of scope and realize that some games shouldn't be designed by committee. Usually those that are built around a particular person's concept of what the world should be like because that will end up being a lot of people's thoughts regarding that game world. When you slowly turn it into design by committee you end up with the balances and image that people have of the game world changing into something completely different.
Oddly enough, those people working with me usually don't come to me with ideas on how to change something, they come to me with things that they think would go well in the game. 90% of the time it goes in with some small changes from what they proposed, usually to fit the actual mechanics of the game or so that it's not imbalancing. They don't want to design by committee on this project any more than I want to have it done that way.

Why won't designers cooperate?
