PCI-Express is coming soon to demolish AGP. I read that PCIX will be able to communicate from high end graphic cards to PCs at about 2.5Gbps per lane per direction. What does this mean for game programmers and developers? What will this technology allow in future games? What kind of significant things will we see in games? Or will this technology just make your computer faster? I''m kinda lost at the idea of how PCI-Express will help us.

It''ll be good as long as they don''t bugger it up and make it "singular special purpose" like AGP did.

They won''t. If you''ve read the proposal documents that Intel has put out, true PCI-Express is a revision of the entire PC architecture. Unfortunately for the sake of backwards compatibility (read: combatibility with those who are backwards) it will be many years before we see pure PCIX systems. Until then they will be hybridized.

Either way, PCIX will be a major improvement to the architecture, and many good things are to come.
